Mushroom spawn for straw or compost
Some edible mushrooms can be grown very easily on straw. Mushroom spawn, also called grain spawn, should be used for this, not innoculated plugs. Our mushroom spawn consists of cereal grains or straw fibres (the latter for the brown stew fungus mushroom). The mushroom mycelium grows throughout the mushroom spawn.
We calculate our pack sizes according to volume, not weight. We supply mushroom spawn in 1 litre, 5 litre and 20 litre packs.

Growing mushrooms on straw pellets
Advantages over straw bales:

✓ Low weight compared to straw bales
✓ Can be grown in pots indoors all year round
✓ Growth is easy to observe
✓ First harvest after approx. 4 weeks
✓ Growing mushrooms indoors is protected from rain and snails
Growing mushrooms on straw bales
The best time to grow them in the garden is from March to September. Soak straw bales in fresh water for several days, allow to drain a little and ‘spike’ with mushroom spawn, i.e. press holes into the bale, e.g. with a broomstick, and fill them with the mushroom spawn. After the growth phase of several weeks, you can harvest several times.
Growing mushrooms on compost
The button mushroom is a so-called compost mushroom. Growing mushrooms on compost does not mean garden compost, but composted animal manure, especially horse manure compost, together with other ingredients. In addition, the compost must be covered with a special type of turf. Contrary to expectations, although the button mushroom is very well known, getting the right compost mixture is critical to success.
